NAV follows the flight plan from the Map. APPR captures the localizer and glideslope of the arrival runway and disconnects at 150 ft — the SR-71 had no autoland, so you flare and land by hand.

Warning voice

Choosing a voice plays its pull-up call-out. Russian uses the Su-27 style phrases, e.g. "Опасная высота! Выводи!" (dangerous altitude, pull out).

Graphics quality

Choose a preset for your device; adaptive resolution can smooth frame pacing.

100% is your screen's native pixels. Above 100% renders more pixels than the screen has and scales down, which is sharper and smoother but costs frame rate.

Typical sortie

  1. Press 9: the J58s take ~6 s to spool and the afterburners light with a green TEB flash.
  2. Rotate gently at ~210 kt, pitch 10°, gear up (G) once climbing.
  3. Flying mode (start sheet or Settings): Easy turns every assist on and adds stall, bank and g protection, forgiving landings, unlimited fuel and no inlet unstarts. Medium is the standard sim. Realistic turns the assists off and uses the real gear's touchdown limits: trim, rudder and flare are yours, and fuel runs out. Each mode sets the options below; you can still change them one by one.
  4. Flight assist (Options, off by default): when you let go of the stick the jet levels its wings and settles its climb or descent over ~10 seconds, so you can look around at Mach 3. Touch the stick and it hands control straight back. Landing aid (Options, on): gear down and under 150 ft it eases the sink rate for the flare; pressing the pitch keys switches it off so you can flare by hand.
  5. In Autopilot set Mach 3.2 and 80,000 ft. Climb and acceleration take about 15 minutes.
  6. Keep sideslip small above Mach 2.3 or an inlet can unstart — the jet yaws hard until it restarts.
  7. Plan the arrival on the Map, pick the arrival runway, then use NAV and APPR.
  8. Fly final at ~175 kt, touch down below 160 kt, chute (C) and brakes.

Cockpit

The front panel is live: ADI with flight director and glideslope, HSI with bearing/DME to the active waypoint and localizer, KIAS/Mach, triple display, altimeter, VSI, g, AoA, clock, fuel, gear lights, both engines' RPM, EGT, nozzle and fuel flow, spike and bypass positions, CIT and annunciators.
